What wedding suppliers cost in the Winelands in 2026/27: photographers, florists, DJs, cakes and more

Updated 3 November 2026

Price tiers for every Winelands wedding supplier, what each tier actually buys, the travel, VAT and minimum-spend traps, and how far ahead to book each one.

Suppliers make up roughly half the cost of a Winelands wedding once the venue and the food are paid for, and they are where quotes vary most. A photographer can cost R8 000 or R45 000; flowers can be R4 000 or R60 000. The differences are not arbitrary. Each price tier buys a definable amount of time, experience and product, and once you know what the tiers mean you can decide where to spend and where to hold back.

The figures below are what South African couples paid in 2025 and 2026, adjusted for the Winelands, where the best-known suppliers are based in Stellenbosch, Somerset West and Cape Town and the Tulbagh and outer Paarl farms carry travel fees. Every supplier on this site can be contacted from their listing with one enquiry.

Photographers: R10 000 to R45 000

What each photography tier buys

TierTypical priceWhat you get
StarterUnder R10 000One photographer for up to four hours, an online gallery; usually newer to weddings
EstablishedR10 000 to R20 000One photographer for six hours, an engagement shoot, online gallery; a developing style and a few seasons' experience
ExperiencedR20 000 to R40 000Two photographers for eight hours, or one plus an album and engagement shoot; a recognisable style and years of Winelands weddings
Top tierR40 000 and upTwo experienced photographers for the whole day, a leather-bound album, the names planners recommend first

Photography alone runs R10 000 to R25 000 for most couples; photography and video together R15 000 to R40 000. Three things move a quote: hours of coverage, the number of shooters and the album. Winelands weddings run long, with a late-afternoon ceremony, golden-hour portraits in the vines and a reception that goes to midnight, so eight hours is a realistic minimum and ten is common. A second shooter matters most at weddings above 100 guests and at venues where getting ready, ceremony and reception are far apart.

  • Ask whether the quote includes VAT. Some photographers quote excluding it, which adds 15 percent.
  • Ask for the travel policy in writing. Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek are usually included; Tulbagh, Wellington and the outer farms often add fuel, and a midnight finish can add accommodation.
  • Ask about delivery time. Six to twelve weeks is normal in peak season.
  • Copyright stays with the photographer by default. Buying it outright later is expensive, so agree print and sharing rights up front.

Videographers: R15 000 to R50 000

About a third of couples book video, and the ones who do rarely regret it. A full-service package, with the ceremony, speeches, a drone pass over the estate and a three- to five-minute highlight film, runs R20 000 to R50 000. The tiers mirror photography: under R15 000 is a portfolio-building videographer, R15 000 to R25 000 is a developing one, R25 000 to R40 000 is experienced, and R40 000 and up gets a second camera and an industry name. Day rates for a camera operator alone run R3 000 to R10 000 and editing a full film R4 000 to R8 000, which is how some couples build a cheaper package: one operator and a highlight edit only. Many Winelands studios offer photo and video together, which saves money and makes the day run smoother. See our videographers page.

Florists: R5 000 to R60 000

Flowers have the widest range of any line because the scope is yours to set. A bridal bouquet averages about R3 000, and a cascading bouquet R4 500 or more because of the wiring. A moderate full wedding, with a bridal bouquet, two bridesmaids' bouquets, six buttonholes, eight table arrangements, two ceremony arrangements and set-up, runs R12 000 to R25 000. Luxury weddings with installations, hanging florals and long-table runners run R25 000 to R60 000 and well beyond.

  • Buy in season. Spring (September to November) brings ranunculus, peonies and sweet peas; summer (December to February) dahlias, hydrangeas and gardenias; autumn roses and zinnias; winter camellias, tulips and orchids. Imported out-of-season roses are the most expensive thing you can put on a table.
  • The Winelands has an advantage here: proteas, pincushions, fynbos foliage and olive branches grow locally and photograph beautifully against vineyards.
  • Ask what happens to the ceremony flowers. Moving two large arrangements to the reception is standard and saves a full set.
  • Delicate blooms are over-ordered to cover damage; that is built into the price, not padding.

Two Winelands specifics. First, nearly every estate enforces a noise limit and a curfew: Boschendal caps sound at 80 decibels and most venues stop music between midnight and 02:00, so a band's late set may be a DJ set. Second, sound for the ceremony and speeches is often not included in the DJ's reception price; ask for one quote that covers the ceremony lawn, the pre-drinks area and the hall. See our music and DJs page.

Cakes: R3 000 to R15 000

Cake prices by tiers and finish

TiersSimpleModerateLuxury
Two tiersR3 000 to R5 000R5 000 to R6 500R9 000 to R10 000
Three tiersR5 000 to R6 500R6 500 to R9 000R12 000 to R13 000
Four tiersR6 500 to R8 000R9 000 to R10 500R15 000 to R16 000

Flavour, finish and decoration set the tier. Vanilla, chocolate and lemon sponges are cheapest; fruit cake and alcohol-soaked layers cost more. Buttercream is cheaper than fondant. Ready-made sugar flowers are about R150 each; custom sugar peonies or roses add R800 and up per tier. Fresh flowers from your florist are far cheaper than sugar ones and look just as good. A two-tier cake with a dummy bottom tier and a sheet cake in the kitchen feeds 100 for the price of a two-tier. Ask the venue about a cake-cutting or plating fee, and whether the cake can replace dessert. See our wedding cakes page.

Hair and makeup: R2 000 to R6 000 for the bride

Couples typically spend R2 000 to R5 000 on bridal hair and makeup combined, split roughly evenly. At the top, bridal hair alone reaches R5 000 to R6 000 and makeup R3 000 to R4 000; entry-level artists start around R1 000 each. A trial is billed separately at R1 500 to R2 500 and is not optional for a wedding you have flown in for. Bridesmaids, mothers and flower girls run about R1 500 each for simpler looks, and group bookings earn a discount. Mobile artists who come to the estate add about R1 000 for travel, and an early start for a morning ceremony can add a call-out fee. Lashes are R700 to R1 500, a manicure from R300, and the groom's barber R300 to R700. See our hair and makeup page.

Planners and coordinators: R5 000 to R110 000

A full wedding takes 200 to 300 hours to plan. Planners charge either a flat fee, typically R15 000 to R50 000, or 10 to 15 percent of the budget. On quote platforms, full-service planning for a 100-guest Stellenbosch estate wedding is being requested and quoted at R44 000 to R110 000, averaging about R75 000. Partial planning, where the planner joins three or four months out, costs less; on-the-day coordination alone runs R5 000 to R10 000 and is compulsory at a growing number of estates, including The Venue Paarl, Boschendal and Maison. Many planners also earn a small commission from suppliers, which is not charged to you. For a destination wedding planned from abroad, a local planner is the one supplier that pays for itself. Our planners page has the Winelands specialists.

Décor, furniture and marquees: R8 000 to R150 000

Professionally sourced décor, excluding flowers, runs R8 000 to R150 000, which is to say it is whatever you make it. The practical items first: table linen is almost never included in a venue fee, ceremony chairs rarely are, and a dance floor is often extra. Lighting, from festoons over the lawn to uplighters in a cellar, changes a venue more than anything else per rand. A marquee or stretch tent runs R3 000 to R30 000, plus R5 000 and up for a generator, R3 000 and up for toilets and R8 000 and up for furniture, which is why a lawn-only venue is rarely the bargain it looks. Hire companies in Stellenbosch, Paarl and Somerset West serve the whole Winelands; most charge delivery per trip, so one supplier for everything is cheaper than four.

Marriage officers: R2 000 to R4 000

A ceremony at a Home Affairs office is free, with an abridged certificate issued on the day and an unabridged certificate for R75, but the wait is usually two months or more. A private marriage officer who comes to the estate, handles the paperwork and registers the marriage charges about R2 000 to R4 000, more for a Sunday or a long drive, and can usually act within days, which matters for couples flying in. Same-sex couples need an officer registered under the Civil Union Act. Our guide to getting married in South Africa as a foreigner covers documents; the marriage officers page lists officers who work across the Winelands.

Transport: R3 000 to R15 000

Couples typically spend R3 000 to R15 000 on transport. A vintage car starts at R4 000, a classic VW Kombi or Beetle at R5 000, a stretch limousine at R6 000 and a sports car at about R10 000. Guest shuttles cost R5 000 to R15 000 for about 25 guests with up to three stops, so a 100-guest wedding with guests spread across town needs R15 000 to R25 000 of shuttles. Ride-hailing in the Winelands after midnight is unreliable and a drive back to Cape Town after a wine-estate wedding is not something to leave to guests. Our guest travel guide has the logistics.

Stationery, favours and the rest

  • Stationery: R3 000 to R10 000 for printed invitations, menus, place cards and signage. Digital invitations and a wedding website bring this close to zero.
  • Favours: R3 000 to R15 000, and the first line most planners cut.
  • Welcome bags for overseas guests: R150 to R400 a bag, which adds up quickly at 50 rooms.
  • Dress R10 000 to R50 000, suits R5 000 to R40 000 for the groom and ushers, rings R28 000 to R150 000 including the engagement ring.
  • Honeymoon: R20 000 for a local trip to R150 000 and more for safari and beach.

Questions couples ask

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek?

Photography alone runs R10 000 to R25 000 for most couples, and R20 000 to R40 000 buys two photographers for eight hours or one with an album and engagement shoot. The top Winelands names charge R40 000 and up. Check whether VAT and travel are included.

How much do wedding flowers cost in South Africa?

R5 000 to R60 000 depending on scope. A bouquet is about R3 000, a moderate full wedding with bouquets, buttonholes and eight table arrangements R12 000 to R25 000, and installations push past R25 000. Seasonal, local flowers cost far less than imported roses.

How much does a wedding DJ cost in the Winelands?

R8 000 to R15 000 for an experienced DJ with sound and lighting for the reception. Ask for one quote that also covers sound for the ceremony and speeches, which is often extra. Live bands run R15 000 to R25 000 and up.

How much is a three-tier wedding cake?

R5 000 to R6 500 for a simple finish, R6 500 to R9 000 for a moderate one and R12 000 to R13 000 for luxury work with hand-made sugar flowers. Fresh flowers and a dummy tier bring the price down without changing the look.

What does bridal hair and makeup cost?

R2 000 to R5 000 for the bride, more for the most sought-after artists, plus a trial at R1 500 to R2 500, about R1 500 for each bridesmaid and roughly R1 000 for travel to the estate.

How much does a wedding planner cost in South Africa?

R15 000 to R50 000 as a flat fee, or 10 to 15 percent of the budget. Full-service planning for a 100-guest estate wedding is commonly quoted at R44 000 to R110 000. On-the-day coordination alone is R5 000 to R10 000 and is compulsory at several Winelands estates.

Do Winelands suppliers charge travel?

Most are based in Stellenbosch, Somerset West or Cape Town and include Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek in their price. Tulbagh, Wellington and the outer farms usually carry a fuel fee, and a midnight finish far from home can add accommodation. Ask for it in writing.
