Wedding Venues · Franschhoek
Franschhoek is the Winelands town couples choose when food, boutique hotels and a village guests can walk around matter as much as the vineyards. It costs more than Stellenbosch or Paarl, and this page shows what the extra buys: which estates offer exclusive use, who sleeps your guests and where the capacity limits sit.

Vrede en Lust at the Simondium end has a glass-walled venue for 120 indoors or 150 outdoors, a covered Vineyard Terrace for bad weather and beds for 52. Franschhoek Cellar's The Venue takes 150 beside the tasting emporium, with fireplaces that make it a sound winter choice. Rickety Bridge's converted barrel cellar seats about 100 and comes with an all-inclusive package. Haute Cabrière's barrel cellar on the Franschhoek Pass is the most dramatic indoor room in the valley. La Roche adds an on-site chapel, and Mont Martre, with published packages from R70 000, is the most affordable entry point we found.

Large guest lists have two clear options. Boschendal's Olive Press takes up to 200 indoors and the estate as a whole up to 250. La Paris, on Wemmershoek Road between Franschhoek and Paarl, is the biggest venue in the region: the Lyceum seats 400 and the Rose Garden seats 200 for the ceremony. Allée Bleue also describes large indoor and outdoor capacity, so ask for its numbers.

Several Franschhoek estates are also hotels, which creates two kinds of exclusive use. The first is a true buy-out: Mont Rochelle offers all 26 rooms with the wedding, and Vrede en Lust sells two-night exclusive-use weddings with its 52 beds. The second is softer: the estate guarantees you are the only wedding that day but other hotel guests remain, which can mean an earlier music cut-off. Ask which one is on offer and whether the rooms must be paid for by you or can be released to guests to book. The luxury and exclusive-use venues page goes into minimum spends.
Take the Bridebook ranges as the frame: R40 000 to R200 000 or more for the venue and R800 to R2 000 per person for food. For 60 guests at the lower end of both that is roughly R90 000 before drinks, suppliers and accommodation; at the top end it passes R300 000 before anything else. Franschhoek's in-house kitchens are the point of the place, so expect catering to sit nearer the upper figure than in Paarl. Mont Martre's R70 000 package and Rickety Bridge's all-inclusive option are the two places to start if you want a bundled price. The Winelands wedding cost guide has fuller worked budgets.
Franschhoek's great practical advantage is the village. Guests can stay in hotels and guest houses on or near the main road, walk to dinner the night before and take the wine tram the day after. The trade-off is distance: Cape Town International Airport is about an hour away, longer than Stellenbosch or Paarl, so book a shuttle for arrival day and for the wedding night. The guest logistics guide explains the options.
The valley is closed in by mountains on three sides, so it holds heat in summer and cloud in winter. December to February is the safest for an outdoor ceremony; March and April are popular and still dry. Bridebook's Franschhoek FAQ puts music cut-off at around 23:00 or midnight, and estates with hotel guests may be stricter. Tents and marquees on the lawns usually need the estate's permission and sometimes a room buy-out because of noise, so raise it at the first viewing.
For a hotel wedding with every guest sleeping on the estate, Mont Rochelle or Vrede en Lust. For the most food-led day, Grande Provence or Holden Manz. For a big guest list, La Paris or Boschendal. For the lowest published price, Mont Martre. If the whole valley is beyond the budget, the Paarl venues page is 20 minutes away and the comparison guide for Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl sets the three side by side.
The town
Franschhoek sits in a valley closed in by mountains on three sides, which gives its estates some of the most dramatic backdrops in the Cape. The town is known for its restaurants and boutique hotels, so it suits couples who want a smaller, food-focused wedding with guests staying within walking distance of the village.
Bridebook's 2025 Franschhoek FAQ gives venue hire of R40 000 to R200 000 or more and catering of R800 to R2 000 per person. Mont Martre is the only listed venue with a published starting price, packages from R70 000. Grande Provence says its rates rise by 15 to 25 per cent each September, so ask for a quote with a validity date.
It is the Winelands town built for it. Guests can stay in the village and walk to restaurants, several estates double as hotels, and the wine tram gives everyone something to do the next day. The cost is the price tier and an airport drive of about an hour.
Mont Rochelle offers all 26 rooms and suites with a wedding, and Vrede en Lust sells two-night exclusive-use weddings with accommodation for 52. Other estates can usually guarantee you are the only wedding that day; ask whether hotel guests will still be on the property.
Roughly an hour by road, which is 15 to 30 minutes further than Stellenbosch or Paarl. Vrede en Lust, Allée Bleue, Boschendal and La Paris sit at the Simondium and Wemmershoek end of the valley and are a little closer.
Not always, because most estates include a coordinator; Holden Manz and Rickety Bridge say so outright. Overseas couples usually benefit from a local planner for supplier meetings and the legal paperwork. Bridebook's 2025 figures put a South African planner at R15 000 to R50 000 or 10 to 15 per cent of the budget.
Around 23:00 or midnight at most estates, according to Bridebook's Franschhoek FAQ. Venues with hotel guests on site may be stricter or may require a buy-out of the rooms for a late marquee party.
Franschhoek Cellar's Platform bistro takes up to 50, Mont Rochelle's cellar dining room seats 10, La Paris has packages for up to 50, and Boschendal and Allée Bleue offer elopement packages at their homesteads.
